Love and Laughter by Milton Lee Norris

How great is the love, how wonderful the laughter
How wonderful the love, how great is the laughter
Both are splendid, both are refreshing and both soothe the soul and heal,
But which one would you rather have as a constant companion?
Which would you rather hug and snuggle up with?
Which would you rather tell a story and fix breakfast for,
Or Iron a shirt, or wipe their forehead, or kiss their lips and whisper
Sweet nothings which are really something into their ears?
I think this would be someone to love and someone you love
Because you could tell them a story, feel their breath as you kiss them,
Stroke their body as you soothe their aching pains and comfort them with just a look.
I think that this would be someone, some companion to love, to cherish,
To smile with, to talk with, to play with, to walk with, to have café with
To joke with, to swim with, to work with, to be with, whether it be on a sofa,
Whether it be on a bed, in the theatre, in a car, in church, at a party, at a dance,
At a wedding, in the shower, on the grass or on the sand, holding hands, dancing together,
Singing together, eating together, being together silently watching and listening to each other’s thoughts.
A little wine and then a little laughter just to complete being alone together.
I’ll take the love because then I can laugh with someone.
I’ll take the love because then I can hold someone and cuddle them.
I’ll take the love because I can nurture them as I love them more.
I’ll take this person because I do love him, for I am somebody who is worth something,
And I want to share my being with this person because I believe he is worth my love, and
He is showing me his love by the way he looks at me, smiles at me, comforts me, tickles me,
Cooks for me, writes for me, how he is with me in laughter and tears, supports me in the good times and the rough times and just allows me to be in silence sometimes for he knows that this is something we both need for ourselves and we are willing to wait as each other listens to their space and body and this world, and then sometimes we just hold each other silently listening to each others smiles, our lips, our eyes and ears and heart beat as we grow closer together falling in love more enjoying to romance, those rough edges and know how to love each other, and how to make each other laugh sometimes with words, sometimes not, yes this is the love which is refreshing, which is spontaneous, which is silent, which is firm, which is like a warm cool rain on a spring day, how beautiful this feeling of love can be, it can make you feel so much joy that tears begin to fall as your soul is cleansed, and as you begin to laugh for this enormous joyous feeling you really know that yes love is the most beautiful thing in the world and then there’s the laughter. Love, sharing, giving, being, taking, and receiving, how beautiful life is whether alone or with someone, but when you have that person to be with, to talk with, to have café and dinner with, to talk with, to cuddle with, yes this is love coming alive, and it’s the most beautiful thing in the world, it’s charming, it’s sensitive, emotional, and simply wonderful because you’re sharing you with that special someone and you are happily in love!
